Simple steps that limit the damage and protect your insurance claim.

Water leak or flooding

  1. 1Shut off the main water valve (usually by the street side of the house or in the garage).
  2. 2Only switch off power to wet rooms if you can reach the breaker without standing in water.
  3. 3Lift rugs, electronics and valuables off wet floors.
  4. 4Take photos of everything before it is moved. Your insurer will ask for them.

Fire or smoke

  1. 1Stay out until the fire department says the building is safe to enter.
  2. 2Do not wipe soot off walls or fabric. It smears and sets permanently.
  3. 3Keep the HVAC off so it does not spread soot through the ducts.
  4. 4Call us to board up and secure the property the same day.

Sewage backup or mold

  1. 1Keep children and pets away from the affected area.
  2. 2Stop using sinks, toilets and drains if sewage is backing up.
